Yoga for Athletes and Active People
Instructor: Carolyn Brennan
Saturday, February 25
10:30 AM-12:30 PM
Tuition: $35, Members: $30
Come see why athletes such as tennis player Pete Sampras, triathlete Danielle Weiss and golfer Annika Sorenstam practice yoga. No matter what your sport, yoga can make you a better athlete. Its focus on whole body strength, balance and flexibility will improve your form, efficiency and power. Yoga’s approach to concentration and breath awareness will increase your focus, endurance, and ability to stay calm even in the face of intensity. Common sense alignment principles will help you improve your posture and prevent injury. We’ll begin with a brief discussion of how to use yogic principles and techniques to improve your athletic performance. We will then learn and practice a variety of poses to stretch and strengthen the entire body with an emphasis on the large muscle groups used in running, swimming, rowing, biking and other sports. We will finish with a short restorative, or restful, practice and a guided relaxation.
